Getting started

What GPX Viewer is, which edition to choose and how to open your first file.

GPX Viewer shows GPX files on a map and analyses them: an elevation profile coloured by gradient, graphs of speed, heart rate, cadence, power and temperature, statistics for the whole file or any section, playback, and tools to draw and edit routes. Your files stay on your computer.

Choose an edition

Your computer Edition
Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later), macOS 13 or later GPX Viewer for macOS, Apple silicon
Intel Mac, macOS 10.13 to 12 GPX Viewer for macOS, Intel
Windows 10 (1809 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit GPX Viewer for Windows
Any computer or phone, without installing GPX Viewer Web Lite in your browser

On a Mac, the Apple menu, About This Mac shows “Apple M…” for Apple silicon or “Intel”.

First steps

  1. Download and install the edition for your computer from the Downloads page. The installers are not signed: see Installing GPX Viewer.
  2. Open a GPX file: drop it on the window, or use the Open button. See Opening GPX files.
  3. Move along the elevation profile: the position follows on the map, and the statistics and point details update.
  4. Change the map in Maps and Layers. Official imagery is offered automatically where a country publishes it.

What GPX Viewer is not

GPX Viewer is not a navigation device. Maps, routes and values can be incomplete or wrong; do not rely on them for safety decisions. See the Legal notice.
